The inaugural issue of Nesir: Journal of Literary Studies, published in October 2021, features a special dossier titled “Animal Studies in Literature.” Edited by Mustafa Altuğ Yayla and Kaan Kurt, the dossier comprises six original articles, one translated article, and one research note. Addressing contemporary issues such as animal representation, interspecies ethics, and anthropocentrism, the issue opens a discussion on the growing interest in the representation of the “nonhuman” in literature. With contributions from researchers based in the United States, Austria, India, and Türkiye, this first issue realizes Nesir’s aim of offering a comparative, pluralistic, and critical perspective by bringing together the rising posthumanist debates in the humanities with literary studies.
