Editorial Roles and Responsibilities

The success of Nesir: Journal of Literary Studies relies on the intellectual collaboration, editorial commitment, and scholarly expertise of its editorial team. The journal’s editorial structure is designed to ensure academic quality, conceptual coherence, and transparency throughout the publication process.

While editorial responsibilities may overlap depending on the needs of the journal, roles can be broadly understood under three interconnected categories: editorial leadership, editorial management, and advisory support.

Editorial Leadership

Editor-in-Chief

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the overall editorial vision, intellectual orientation, and academic standards of the journal. This role includes:

  • Defining and maintaining the journal’s scope, priorities, and long-term direction
  • Making final decisions on manuscript acceptance based on editorial and peer review reports
  • Ensuring adherence to ethical and academic publishing standards
  • Coordinating editorial processes and publication planning
  • Representing the journal within the international academic community

Editorial Management

Managing Editors

Managing Editors oversee the day-to-day editorial workflow and ensure the smooth operation of the submission and review process. Their responsibilities include:

  • Conducting initial technical and formal checks of submissions
  • Coordinating communication between authors, reviewers, and editors
  • Managing timelines and ensuring the timely progression of manuscripts
  • Supporting the Editor-in-Chief in editorial decision-making processes

Section Editors

Section Editors are responsible for specific fields within the journal and play a central role in shaping its scholarly content. Their responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating submissions for relevance, originality, and conceptual fit within their section
  • Overseeing the peer review process, including selecting appropriate reviewers
  • Making editorial recommendations regarding revision, acceptance, or rejection
  • Contributing to the development of thematic directions and special issues

Book Review Editor

The Book Review Editor is responsible for commissioning, evaluating, and editing book reviews. This role includes:

  • Identifying relevant publications for review
  • Coordinating with reviewers and ensuring timely submission of reviews
  • Maintaining academic quality and coherence within the book review section

Language Editors (English and Turkish)

Language Editors ensure linguistic clarity, stylistic consistency, and academic readability. Their work includes:

  • Reviewing accepted manuscripts for language accuracy and coherence
  • Ensuring consistency with journal style and terminology
  • Supporting authors in improving clarity where necessary

Copy Editors

Copy Editors are responsible for the final preparation of manuscripts prior to publication. Their responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring consistency in formatting, citation style, and layout
  • Correcting typographical and stylistic issues
  • Preparing manuscripts in accordance with the journal’s publication standards

Web, Indexing and Social Media Coordinators

Web, Indexing and Social Media Coordinators are responsible for enhancing the journal’s digital presence, accessibility, and international visibility. Their role includes:

  • Maintaining and updating the journal’s website and OJS infrastructure
  • Overseeing the accuracy and completeness of metadata, DOI registration, and indexing processes (e.g., Crossref, DOAJ, TR Dizin)
  • Developing strategies to increase the discoverability and dissemination of published articles
  • Managing the journal’s social media presence and supporting the circulation of its content within academic networks
  • Contributing to communication with indexing services and databases

Advisory Support

Editorial Board

Members of the Editorial Board contribute actively to the intellectual development of the journal. Their roles include:

  • Participating in the peer review process within their areas of expertise
  • Providing scholarly guidance on editorial direction and scope
  • Supporting the development of high-quality submissions
  • Promoting the journal within their academic networks

Advisory Board

The Advisory Board consists of internationally recognized scholars who support the journal’s long-term academic vision. Their contributions include:

  • Offering strategic advice on the journal’s development
  • Supporting its international visibility and scholarly positioning
  • Contributing, when appropriate, to peer review and thematic development

Editorial Principles
